Mission Statement and Goals

MISSION STATEMENT

We promote life-long learning and literacy in all its forms through active advocacy for educational media services professionals.

GOALS

1. Pass legislation to reinstate the requirement for library media programs and media specialists in the Code of Iowa.

2. Develop a program to educate pre- and in-service teachers and administrators about the role of media services professionals and programs.

3. Challenge members to keep abreast of changes in the profession and provide opportunities for professional growth.

4. Develop and publish benchmarks or standards for information literacy in Iowa.

5. Develop and maintain collaborative links with other professional organizations.

6. Become more inclusive in our overall membership to enhance and diversify the organizations and secure its future.

7. Increase membership and increase participation by members in organization activities.

8. Develop a state accreditation/certification system for library media programs based on standards.
